The Trust is a company with charitable status. Established in December 1999, it took over the ownership and management of Ford Park Cemetery in April 2000 and it is supported in its work by the Friends of Ford Park Cemetery. Its primary role is as the custodian of a historic working cemetery, the oldest in Plymouth, which has sufficient space to offer Plymothians a resting place for their loved ones for the next 100 years or so.

The Cemetery, which is adjacent to Central Park, is set in a landscape of great beauty and peace, part of which is listed as Grade II* on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Historic Interest.

In addition to its central role of managing a working cemetery, the Trust undertakes much education work with the community and with schools, centred on the history of the City and on the unique wildlife habitat of the Cemetery.

Ford Park is a thirty four acre working cemetery in the heart of the city of Plymouth. Founded in 1848 it is now owned and managed by the Ford Park Cemetery Trust, a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.

The aims of the Trust are:-

  • To preserve and manage Ford Park Cemetery as a safe, beautiful and accessible burial ground.
  • To cherish and make better known its heritage of history, architecture, sculpture and landscape.
  • To maintain the Cemetery as an open space of beauty and peace for all Plymothians, and to preserve and propagate the wildlife which it supports.
